Air compressors are one of the most important pieces of equipment a shop can have. Air compressors can be used to power tools, inflate tires, and clean the shop. Like any tool air compressors require special safety precautions. The following tips can reduce the risk of injury and extend the life of your air compressor.

- Make sure all fittings, pipes, and hoses meet or exceed the maximum pressure of the compressor.
- Keep air hoses free of grease and oil, this will add life to your air compressor.
- Do not string hoses across floors or aisles where they could be a trip hazard. Suspending hoses overhead is the best solution.
- Secure hose ends, this prevents whipping if a cut or break occurs.
- Wear eye protection.
- Never operate air compressors faster than manufacturers limits.

A bike dynamometer or “dyno” as it is commonly called can do more than measure horsepower and torque. It can make repairs easier, bring in new business, and increase the credibility of aftermarket parts. The Fuch’s bike dyno from Handy measures horsepower and torque with less than 1% error compared to a motorcycle manufacturer’s value. This data is crucial to getting the most power out of a bike. Tuning with a dyno is much more accurate and safer than road testing and tuning by the seat of your pants. This will save time and money in a repair shop as repairs won’t have to be made twice. A “dyno day” can increase traffic as customers are often curious to see how much power their bike is putting down. If you are an aftermarket parts manufacturer dyno sheets can prove the value of your parts and increase sales.

Working with fuel can be dangerous, keep these tips in mind as you fill up your power equipment this spring.

•Fill power equipment slowly to prevent fuel from spilling and making contact with the hot engine or expensive paint.
• Avoid prolonged or repeated skin contact with fuel. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water in case of contact
• Avoid breathing vapors or mists.
• Remove any clothing that is wet with fuel. Allow fuel to evaporate completely outdoors before washing. Thoroughly clean clothing before reuse.
• Shut off engine while fueling your motorcycle, tractor, ATV, automobile or lawnmower.

1. Safety: A stable heavy duty lift will keep your bike from falling on you, while safety features like a toe guard protect from injury.

2. Weight Capacity: How much does your bike weigh? Make sure to get a lift that can handle the weight of your bike. You don’t want an unstable lift while working on your bike. Keep in mind that bikes weigh more when fully dressed.

3. Adjustability: Does the lift raise high enough for a comfortable working position? Can it be easily moved and stored in your shop or garage?

4. Standard Features: Features such as a drop down panels allow for easy wheel removal and access to the front fork while the ability to choose from electric or air powered models allows you to choose the right setup for your shop or garage.

5. Accessories and Customization: Optional accessories allow you to configure and improve your lift setup. Side extensions allow for other power equipment such as snowmobiles, atvs, trikes or tractors. Simple options like a tool tray can decrease wasted time and frustration when you can’t find the tool you need.

6. Design: You want a lift that is durable and looks good. Solid steel lifts offer excellent strength and are available in a wide variety of colors.

7. Reputation: There’s a reason why so many bike repair shops use high quality lifts. They may cost more, but they last longer, require less maintenance and securely hold the motorcycle.

8. Size: Do you ride a chopper or trike? A longer lift will be needed for these types of bikes. Do you have an atv or snowmobile? Side extensions are needed for these special applications.

9. Setup: Many lifts such as those from Handy come assembled and only require basic setup. You want to put your bike on your lift when you get it, not setup your lift.

10. Craftsmanship: A well built lift should give you and your bike years of use. All Handy Lifts are made in the USA and come with a limited warranty.
